On Saturday, March 31st, on a beautiful spring day, the Mothers Out Front Worcester team held a community forum on Gas Leaks in school zones and climate change. The forum was a culmination of months of research, strategy-planning and thinking from the Mothers Out Front Worcester team.
The forum attracted a crowd of fifty people who represented a wide cross-section of the Worcester community. In attendance, there were Worcester Public School parents, college students, community activists, environmentalists, residents concerned about gas leaks in schools, in the community and climate change, moms, dads, grandparents.
Worcester's Mayor came, as well as District 3 City Councilor George Russell, State Representative Keefe, School Committee member, Dante Comparetto, and two school committee candidates. Local grassroots organizations, like, SunRise Worcester Chapter, the Regional Environmental Council, RENEW, Socialist Alternatives, 350 Central Mass, also came to support this team's work.
32 people signed a letter addressed to Eversource outlining the asks of MOF Worcester related to fixing the gas leaks in Worcester Public Schools. The mothers will take these letters to the upcoming meeting with the Eversource president.
The MOF team was engaged and conducted wide outreach for this event. This forum allowed for their leadership to rise to a credible and visible level. They are re-energized and ready to carry this work forward.
