Worcester FRRACS Solidarity Action

Residents Against the Compressor Station (FRRACS). Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito was scheduled to attend a political fundraiser in Worcester Tuesday evening, which Mothers Out Front Worcester saw as an opportunity to demonstrate support for FRRACS’ opposition to the proposed Enbridge fracked-gas compressor station near the Fore River Bridge in North Weymouth. This project is a lynchpin of Massachusetts’ commitment to fossil fuels, as it will connect pipelines from as far south as PA, all the way to Canada. Most of the dirty gas will be sold and exported, very little even serving residents of MA.

Worcester activists recognize the relentless activism of South Shore residents and allies; they share their concern for the health, safety, environmental, and economic threats that the compressor station poses to the South Shore community; and they are appalled that Governor Baker’s administration has refused to recognize the groundswell of opposition, ignoring all calls from residents and allies and failing to meet in person. As tactics are expected to escalate in the coming weeks, Worcester will continue to show up on behalf of FRRACS and our beleaguered planet.

The action in Worcester utilized signage, chanting and song to call for public accountability of the administration and to send support and love to everyone in the South Shore.  Passersby, as well as people heading into the fundraiser venue, seemed genuinely curious and engaged in conversation. The tone was positive, with one individual saying he would follow-up and get involved.
