Mothers Out Front is launching a new campaign to fix gas leaks in Somerville! Will you help us?
· There are over 16,000 gas leaks in Massachusetts, and over 200 in Somerville alone!
· Leaked gas is mostly methane, a “greenhouse gas on steroids” that is 86 times worse for the climate than CO2 in its first 20 years in the atmosphere.
· The utilities charge us for the leaked gas, wasting millions of consumer dollars.
· Methane also kills local trees and worsens global health.
On SUNDAY, APRIL 30th we will gather at 1 p.m. in front of the East Branch of the Somerville Public Library for a welcome address and kick-off. We will then split off into teams to disperse and mark the leaks throughout the city with tags and door hangers.
We need volunteers to help with the tagging to mark leaks in local neighborhoods. Everyone is welcome. No knowledge or experience is necessary. You will be supplied with a map and all necessary materials, including talking points.
On SATURDAY, MAY 20th at 2 p.m. at the East Somerville Community School we will hold a public forum on gas leaks with Somerville state rep Christine Barber (sponsor of key upcoming gas leaks legislation), other elected officials and experts and representatives from National Grid and Eversource.
We need a large turnout at the forum. The utilities are working with us and our allies to fix the largest leaks, but MORE VOICES MEANS MORE ACTION!!
Please RSVP here
to either or both events.
