Betsy Ericksen, Massachusetts Community Organizer

Betsy was born a military brat, and moving to new towns, states, and countries every few years made her fascinated in the power and promise of community and community organizing. She received her B.A. in Peace & Justice Studies from Wellesley College, where she was a student organizer and peer advocate for survivors of sexual violence.  Having studied social movements and sustainable development in cities around the world, she is excited to be organizing in Boston, a place that is starting to feel like home.  Betsy is serving at Mothers Out Front as fellow through Life Together, a program that helps young adults integrate their passion for social justice with spiritual practice and communal living. Betsy enjoys horror movies and museums, and always has overdue library books.

Janet Groat, Massachusetts Organizing Manager

Janet Groat joined Mothers Out Front in April 2017 as the Massachusetts Organizing Manager. Janet brings a rich history as an organizer, strategist, and trainer to her new position, with a particular interest in team building and fostering successful structures for shared leadership.  As Regional Manager for Moms Demand Gun Sense in America, she coached five state-based chapters, cultivated leaders, worked with teams to activate and track voters and met the challenges head on. Janet has a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. With the knowledge that many of the solutions to climate change, as well as the political will, will come from those most affected, Janet is excited to work on the strategic effort to elevate their voices.
