Join Us in Creating a Sustainable Future for Our Children!
Are you urgently concerned about climate change? So are we!
We are mothers and others working together for a livable climate and sustainable future for our children and grandchildren. We are building a strong local team acting on many levels—the personal, neighborhood, city, state and national.
Whether you’re an experienced climate activist or new to climate action, we invite you to join us. Together we are making a difference!
Stop Gas Leaks. Newton has 690+ gas leaks from old pipelines under our streets. Gas can cause explosions, pollutes our air, and kills our trees. Plus, the utilities charge us for the lost gas. We raise awareness of gas hazards and waste through our Annual Gas Leak Tagging events, we advocate for National Grid to be more accountable and transparent and we promote state and local policies to fix gas pipeline leaks.
⬆OPT UP to 100% Green Electricity. Newton Power Choice is Newton's community electricity aggregation program. Mothers Out Front advocated for a high standard option to help reduce Newton’s greenhouse gas emissions, encourage the development of local renewable energy, and support local businesses and local jobs. We can get 60% of our electricity from local renewable energy sources but we can do better. We encourage Newton residents to Opt Up to 100%. Learn more!
“Use Less, Green the Rest” is a free presentation and discussion about reducing our household carbon footprint by conserving energy and switching to "green energy." We advocate for meaningful goals in Newton’s Climate Action Plan. We also inform Newton residents about Mass Save's free home energy assessments and free energy and cost saving devices. Stop New Fossil Fuel Infrastructure. Spectra Energy (Enbridge) plans to build a 7,700-horsepower Gas Compressor Station adjacent to the new Fore River Bridge to bring fracked gas through New England and into Canada. The Weymouth Compressor Station poses a serious threat to the health, safety, environment, and economy of the South Shore. We support the Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station in their campaign to stop the project. We call on Governor Baker to deny Enbridge the air, wetlands and waterways permits.
Pass State Legislation. We partner with many other environmental and community groups to help build the political will to influence our elected officials to take bold climate action. We show up at city council meetings and legislative hearings to build support for policies that will make our community more sustainable. Mothers Out Front's priority bills are the Carbon Pollution Pricing bill, H.2810, The FUTURE Act, S.1940/H.2849, and two Environmental Justice bills, S.453/h.826 and S.464/H.761.
