Lincoln votes to become much greener!

Mothers Out Front Lincoln teamed up with the LS High School Environmental Club and Green Energy Committee to PASS four very important Green Resolutions at Lincoln’s Annual Town Meeting. The Lincoln team spent countless hours meeting with town administrators and employees, local boards and businesses to get broad support for these initiatives. In addition, a huge 'Get Out the Vote' effort was made that included tabling several mornings at the local transfer station, a 'Green Initiatives' postcard party and mailing, and an electronic phone chain/text to encourage people to show up and VOTE! And it worked!! Each of the following citizen petitions required a 2/3 majority citizen's vote and each passed with much more!

  • Plastic Water Bottle and Plastic Bag Bans: The Town of Lincoln now joins its neighbors of Sudbury and Concord in banning the sale of both single-use plastic water bottles and grocery bags- two big steps towards protecting our oceans, wildlife, health and climate from harmful single-use plastic.
  • Gas Leaks Resolution: The Town of Lincoln voted to support the Consumer Cost Protection Bill that will encourage local utilities to swiftly fix the 64 gas leaks in Lincoln.
  • Community Choice Aggregation: The Town of Lincoln voted to allow the Board of Selectmen to initiate the process to pool electricity purchasing power, negotiate price stability and source more renewable energy.
